Session 67

Outline recap

  • The party arrives at the gates of Baikuntha.
    • They decide not to announce the Effulgent One’s presence.
    • Instead they tell the guards at the gates that they are escorting Lyr back to Mukashram.
      • Mukashram is Lyr’s childhood home. A all-female place of worship. It is forbidden for any man to enter the giant red doors. Inside is a tranquil and silent paradise. Young girls with promise, typically poor or runaways, are reared here to become devout worshipers of Pelor and healers who minister to the poor and defend the weak.
    • They are admitted to the city without any issue.
  • Mukashram is located in the center of the city next to the temple devoted the midday sun.
    • Lyr and Sartaj explain that the city has three main temples to Pelor.
      • The western temple stands at the gates of the city.
      • The Eastern temple is connected to the Royal Palace and along the great river.
      • The Midday temple houses the Order of the Golden Sun.
    • All three temples are built around a towering spire with a sundial blade atop. The surrounding plaza below is marked with the holy hours of the day, and is always packed with ascetics following the shadows in the ritual of Atmaparikshan.
  • Lyr takes the group on the most direct route.
    • The route goes right through Sura Chagrib, which are the slums of Baikuntha.
      • The entire group stands out and begins to draw a crowd.
      • Lyr uses a spell to keep the crowd calm and the party is able to pass through without incident.
  • After working their way through the crowds gathered around the midday temple, the party arrives at Mukashram.
    • While they are not allowed in the inner temple, there are some outer areas that the party is permitted to stay in.
    • Lyr’s adoptive mother, Eka, is summoned.
      • Eka has taken a vow of silence so her and Lyr converse without sound.
        • Eka agrees to help keep the Effulgent one’s presence quiet until it is determined that she will be safe in the city.
  • Sartaj leaves to find his order.
    • He promises to meet up with the party in a few hours.
  • Hasan heads off to the library to see if he can find any information about times in the past that Sankta Kunveno has been called, and anything regarding the events 100 years ago at the temple where they found the effigy.
    • He gets distracted and winds up reading about an order of the Peloric faith called the Shadow Strikers.
  • Everyone else goes off to do their own things.
  • They meet up again around dinner time.
    • Except for Sartaj who has not returned.
  • The party will spend the night in the guest quarters of Mukashram.
  • That night Sehera wakes up to find a young man standing in her room.
    • He silently gestures for her to follow him.
      • As they are walking Sehera asks him his name.
      • He opens his mouth, to reveal that he has no tongue.
    • They reach the entrance to the gardens.
  • A Mukshahatut tree has sprouted in the middle of the entrance.
    • The young man gestures to the top of it, and makes a motion like he is carefully cupping something in his hands.
    • Sehera climbs the tree.
    • At the top are whispersilk worms.
    • She carefully takes one in her hand and brings it back down to the young man.
    • He takes it from her and begins spinning silk in his hands.
    • In less than a minute he has spun the silk into a large length of whispersilk fabric.
      • He hands it to Sehera.
      • When she takes it from him, the fabric begins to rapidly age and fall apart until she is only holding a small piece.
      • While Sehera’s attention is focused on the fabric, the young man and the tree disappear.
  • Sehera wakes up the others and explains what happened.
    • She still has the scrap of fabric and shows it to the others.
      • They guess that the fabric is about 100 years old.
  • Lyr wakes up Eka.
    • She asks Eka if she is aware of any significant events taking place in Mukashram 100 years ago, or any strange happenings.
      • Eka is not aware of anything.
  • There is no trace of the tree or the young man, so the party agrees to investigate further in the morning.

The next morning.

  • Feng heads to the library to do some research.
  • Still no word from Sartaj.
  • The others head to the temple of the Midday Sun to see if they can find any trace of Sartaj.
    • Hasan and Lyr are awed by the size and grandeur of the temple.
    • Sehera becomes bored and wanders off a little bit.
    • She comes across an out of the way doorway that is guarded.
      • When the guards ask her what she is looking for, she tells them that they were concerned that Sartaj had not returned, and were looking for him.
      • They are told to wait while one of the guards goes through the door.
        • When he returns the group is told that a member of The Silver Sun will meet with them in the evening at Mukashram.
  • Lyr returns to Mukashram to spend time with Eka.
  • Hasan, Indira, and Sehera go sightseeing.
    • They visit the Garnet Plaza.
      • A public park with a massive 3-walled redstone structure used in coronation ceremonies. It also features a solar calendar along the interior wall.
    • They also visit the beach and watch Ladan races.
  • Feng returns from the library.
    • He had some success with his research.
      • He was not able to find out why Sankta Kunveno was called 100 years ago.
      • Buried in the history books he did find one significant event from 100 years ago that involved The Silver Sun.
        • 100 years ago the Rajat Neta (Lord Commander) of the Silver Sun was a man named Chandra Pavitra Prakash. He raised an army of 100 members in the Silver Sun and led them in to battle with a powerful Rakshasa. Chandra was the only one to perish in the fight.
          • Chandra also belonged to the family that owns the Shining Wind Manufacturing Company, which is the largest exporter of whispersilk in Baikuntha.
      • He also found a clue to where the Silver Sun is keeping Sartaj (if they are the ones that took him).
        • There is a fourth temple representing Pelor’s journey at night, is called Adhirata. It is an inverted tower underground, and it’s existence is not commonly known. This is the stronghold of the Order of the Silver Sun.
  • Purnima Shree the representative from the Silver Sun arrives.
    • She informs the group that the Silver Sun is holding Sartaj for questioning because this Kaf’s Sartaj perished.
      • They have brought him up on charges of violating samsara.
      • The party vouches for Sartaj and does their best to explain the situation.
        • Purnima agrees to pass on what she has learned to her superiors, as it seems to line up with what they have gotten from Sartaj.
    • Hasan and Purnima spend some time talking around the fact that the party has been escorting the Effulgent One.
      • Eventually Hasan gets to the point that the party is worried that something bad will happen when she goes to the meeting.
      • Purnima agrees to arrange for the Silver Sun to escort her and stand guard.
        • The escort will come to Mukashram in the morning.
